{"id":3409,"date":"2023-06-04T18:57:52","date_gmt":"2023-06-04T18:57:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eufad.com\/?p=3409"},"modified":"2024-01-04T16:07:20","modified_gmt":"2024-01-04T16:07:20","slug":"androids-new-generative-ai-can-reply-to-your-texts-and-design-its-own-wallpaper","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eufad.com\/?p=3409","title":{"rendered":"Android\u2019s new generative AI can reply to your texts and design its own wallpaper"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Generative AI is all the rage \u2014 and Google has found two new ways to put the tech in the palm of your hand. <\/p>\n<p>First, it\u2019s announcing Magic Compose, a new feature in Android\u2019s default Messages app that\u2019ll let you respond to texts with auto-suggested responses \u201cbased on the content of your messages\u201d so they sound like you, or pull a Grammarly and make them sound more \u201cconcise\u201d and \u201cprofessional,\u201d or even imitate a famous style. <\/p>\n<p> <cite>Image: Google<\/cite><\/p>\n<p>Me? I <em>can\u2019t wait<\/em> to put it to work on those pig butchering scammers who keep pretending they\u2019ve got the \u201cwrong number.\u201d The beta\u2019s coming this summer.<\/p>\n<p>Second, as part of a Pixel-exclusive next month, Google\u2019s adding generative AI wallpaper where \u201cyou can answer suggested prompts to describe your ultimate creative vision\u201d thanks to \u201cGoogle\u2019s text-to-image diffusion model.\u201d It\u2019s like Midjourney or Stable Diffusion, but just for a single spot on your phone. Here\u2019s hoping it\u2019s good and we can easily yank the images for other uses, too.<\/p><figcaption><em>Generative AI wallpaper.<\/em><\/figcaption><cite>GIF by Sean Hollister \/ Video by Google<\/cite><figcaption><em>Cinematic wallpaper, generated by an adversarial neural network from a picture.<\/em><\/figcaption><cite>GIF by Sean Hollister \/ Video by Google<\/cite><\/p>\n<p>Google also says it\u2019s got a new flavor of \u201ccinematic wallpaper\u201d that \u201cuses on-device machine learning networks to transform your favorite photos into stunning 3D images\u201d that \u201ccome to life when you unlock or tilt your device.\u201d (I\u2019m quoting heavily throughout because there\u2019s so little additional text in the official blog post that I don\u2019t see much of a point in summarizing it for you.)<\/p>\n<p>None of these are particularly new ideas, but as the famous William Gibson quote goes: \u201cThe future is already here. It\u2019s just not evenly distributed yet.\u201d There are a lot of opportunities to try generative AI, but some of the best are moderately, if not heavily, paywalled, and it\u2019s nice to have another in the palm of your hand. <\/p><figcaption><em>Click here for a larger image.<\/em><\/figcaption><cite>Image: Google<\/cite><\/p>\n<p>More customization will apparently be a big theme of Android 14 when it arrives later this year, by the way. You\u2019ll also be able to \u201ccustomize your lock screen with new shortcuts and beautifully crafted clocks\u201d and apply a monochrome (black, white, gray) color palette \u201cacross your entire phone experience.\u201d There will be emoji wallpaper, too. <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s all a tiny glimpse of the Android ecosystem post-Android 13 \u2014 because the company tells us it\u2019s not planning to make a big deal of Android 14 today. <\/p>\n<p>These AI-related features are just a few of the AI sightings we\u2019ve had at I\/O today.
